The inaugural Tunnel 2 Towers Run London (Approx 5k) will take place on Sunday 21st October 2012.
Having had a large number of people from the UK take part in the FDNY Tunnel to Towers Run organised by the Stephen Stiller Foundation
(www.tunneltotowersrun.org) for many years it was felt that we could achieve something similar in the UK and with London hosting the Olympics it seemed a logical step that we would hold the first Tunnel to Towers in Europe this year 2012.
It would seem quite a simple concept to organize a run incorporating a tunnel and towers here in London, but as with everything it’s not as simple as that. A route needed to be decided upon, roads needed closing, dates need choosing and of course there is the small matter of the Olympics.
By taking inspiration from the Sillers who when they first did this run only had a couple of thousand running and were also starting something that they could only dream of taking off like it has. The US tunnel to towers is now run all across America raising millions of dollars for good causes.
The route starts from Southwark Park, Bermondsey, then through the Rotherhithe Tunnel, Wapping and finishing with a street party in Billingsgate Market within the shadows of the Canary Wharf towers in London’s Docklands.
So whether you’re from a Fire & Rescue Service, another ‘Blue Light’ Service, the Forces or just proud of the work we all do, come and join us.
However, we only have spaces for 10,000 people. A portion of the entrance money and donations will go to a range of charitable organisations, but please feel free to use this event to raise funds for the cause close to your own heart. This is a celebration of complete selflessness and the ultimate sacrifice.
