The Inaugural Tunnel 2 Towers Run (T2T) London 2012 (approx 5 Km) took place on Sunday the 21st October 2012. Taking our inspiration from the FDNY Tunnel to Towers Run organised by the Stephen Siller Foundation, www.tunneltotowersrun.org. The event began at Southwark Park in Bermondsey with the run itself starting in the aptley named Brunel Road. The run then went from South to North under the River Thames through the Rotherhithe Tunnel to wapping and Finished in London's Docklands in Billingsgate Market in the shadow of Canary Wharfs Towers. Where we held a street party till late afternoon.
Every Service, Emergency and Armed were represented with a huge turn out and this took various forms, be it in uniform, protective equipment or running wear. Money was raised for hundreds of charities including the Firefighters Charity, Katie Pipers Burns Charity, the pilgrim bandits, The Bomb Disposal Charity 'Felix', The London Fire Brigade Welfare Fund to name a few.
The 20th July 2014 T2T event, was again a huge success, we are now looking at next years event which would be on the third Sunday on the 19th July 2015. This will allow us to remain aligned to our own significant date of 7/7. Also then allow for our people to make the journey across the pond to actively take part and support the events in America, therefore with a view to supporting and complimenting each others events.
On another side of what we do, we have continued to work within the community with our Community Relief and Salvage programme. We as Firefighters (retired & still operational) have attended a few area disasters and carried out work clearing, shoring up, cleaning, re-wiring, rebuilding and refurbishing homes after disasters such as;- Hurricane Sandy (New York USA), The Norfolk Surge Tide, we made ourselves available for the Somerset and Surrey Floodings (we were never used ??) Serbia (called by the Serbian Embassy) Bosnia, Buffalo USA, The Orkney Islands ..We are happy to come to any Community in need and give ourselves and our resources to assist in getting people and communities into their recovery phase.
We have also been instrumental in getting some of Britains wounded and injured Military out to various events, including the T2T in New York, a rehabilitation trip out with some of America's wounded warriors in North Carolina and also now a Charity Bike Ride in Texas the T Mobile Wallis Independence Ride on the 1st of November 2014. We have now aligned ourselves along side the independence fund GB to continue this work.
All of this with great thanks to our partners... Some of which are Yorkshire Tea, Breitling, Hailo Cab, The Special Bar Service.... alongside some special Charities - The Independence Fund, The Pilgrim Bandits, The Firefighters Charity
See you there this year.......... Bigger and Bolder and with even more Pride in what you do....
